Frames

Framing of my paintings is a very important part of the display process. All my frames are hand made in my workshop. I source the softwood locally and using mitre saws, nail guns, glue and straps, all frames are made to measure depending on the size of the canvas or board. Frames are strung to hang on the wall so the top of the frame will be about 10cm from the wall nail. Not all paintings are framed, and it is clearly stated if they are frames or not. Generally speaking, I supply what are called floating frames. These frames give the impression the painting is floating within the frame itself, with no obvious connection between the frame and the painting. Frames are typically 27mm by 18mm box wood, but are larger on bigger format paintings. The gap between the painting and the frame is typically 30mm all around, but some paintings may be larger for effect.

As my frames are handmade, the dimensions can suit your needs if you have a particular frame requirement. Please request a quote should special frames be required. Frame colours vary and I either provide an off-white generic colour or I may choose a colour which accentuates a feature of the painting itself. Frames are sprayed with an acrylic lacquer for a hard-wearing surface. If you decide to buy a painting and do not like the colour of the frame, do contact me for alternative options and repainting costs. If a frame is supplied with the painting, it is included in the price, but an unframed painting can have a frame added at a cost. The deeper canvas paintings generally don’t have frames supplied, but can be supplied if required. If in doubt, contact me for clarification.
